One of the vegetables we got this week was kale.
I've never eaten it before. Certainly, I've never cooked it. I bought a specialty cookbook for just this type of thing, called "Chez Panisse Vegetables" by Alice Waters. There were directions on how to store it, how to use it, and a couple different recipes. I made sauteed kale with garlic and vinegar. Thankfully, there was also a suggestion to serve it with pasta. We got some fresh pasta this week, so I made that too.
I made salads too, but I forgot to take a picture of it.
This turned out to be kind of blah. I liked the kale and I liked the pasta, but it didn't work well together. Too much dense pasta. Maybe it would have been better with more kale or some other vegetables added in. I cooked about half of the kale and all of the pasta, but we left about a third of it for another day. I'm writing this a day after the fact, so I know that Roy had the leftovers for lunch on Friday, and liked it a lot better as a side dish.
The fun happened later on that night. Now, I like a number of fruits, but I don't like berries. We got fresh strawberries and a strawberry poundcake this week. Roy made himself some strawberry shortcake. He sliced the strawberries, mashed some of them with my potato masher to make a gooey sauce, and added Cool Whip.
